Fisheries Innovations Conference; Rotterdam November 6 – 7 2009

On November 6 and 7, 2009, more than one hundred and twenty fishermen, policy makers and scientists came together in Rotterdam to discuss how to improve the innovations in the fishery sector. The aim was to exchange ideas and challenges between the individual countries Norway, Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium and The Netherlands.

At the meeting participants agreed there is an urgent need to develop their fisheries innovation agendas and how fishermen innovate their fisheries. Thirteen fishermen presented their practical experiences to fellow fishermen and policy makers. They concluded that the access to novel approaches, technologies and ideas is the only way to transform into a sustainable, socially responsible industry sector.

The organization is extremely pleased with all positive input that brought the conference to a success. As soon as the follow up actions are clear, these will be published on the website.

As a result of the successful "VIP 30" booklet, the Fisheries Innovation Platform developed a similar booklet in English. This booklet demonstrates ten innovative projects that show creativity and entrepreneurship of the Dutch fishermen in their aim for a responsible North Sea. The booklet is developed for colleagues abroad in particular. The first print was released during the International Fisheries Innovations Conference on 6-7 November 2009 in Rotterdam.
